Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) has been the nation’s preeminent youth-service mentoring organization for over a century. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Athens County is a full affiliate of the national organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Our service is based on our volunteers. Our proven success is in creating and nurturing relationships between adults and youths.
Youth development experts agree that, in addition to their parents, youth need additional supportive, caring adults in their lives. BBBS works closely with parents to match every youth with the right Big Brother or Big Sister. Each potential Big is screened, trained, and supervised to help ensure that the relationship will be safe and rewarding for everyone involved.

The Mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Athens County is to make a positive difference in the lives of area youth through professionally supported relationships with mentors and volunteers.
Little Moments. Big Magic.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters are, foremost, friends to children: They share everyday activities, expand horizons, and experience the joy in even the simplest events. Within these little moments lies the big magic that is shared between Bigs and Littles.
Professionals in youth development support these individual, responsible relationships. And national research has shown that the shared experiences between Bigs and Littles have a direct and lasting impact in the lives of youths. A Big can help a youth discover a world of possibilities and opportunities simply by being a friend.
Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is something that almost anyone can do. Our volunteers consistently say that being part of a BBBS match is as enjoyable and fulfilling for them as it is for their Littles.
Since 1986, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Athens County has been making a difference in the lives of area youth. In 2007, BBBS of Athens County serves 350 children from the Athens and Vinton Counties. Every year the number of youths that benefit from our programs increases as BBBS of Athens County continues to expand its services. Click here to meet our Staff.
